Officers Arrest 6 in Connection with Drug Smuggling Operation

In the state of Arizona, police officers from a local department worked in conjunction with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) to investigate a suspect drug-smuggling operation. During the investigation, authorities looked into reports that individuals were moving thousands of pounds of marijuana from Mexico into the city of Phoenix. Following their investigation, police say they were able to catch and arrest the leader of the ring, a 28-year-old male.

Aside from the leader, officers arrested five other people who they believe were involved in the smuggling. The individuals were charged with offenses ranging from drug crimes to weapon crimes. In addition to their arrests, police say they confiscated ten weapons including a pistol and two ballistic vests.

According to officers, the ring would move tons of marijuana from Mexico into the U.S. every month, which led to police opening an investigation back in February.
