Car Accident Defendant Deported after Serving 12 Years in Prison

This week in the state of Arizona, an illegal immigrant was deported to his native land of Mexico after serving time in jail for causing a major car accident. The crash wounded a police officer who sustained severe burn injuries.

News sources say that the defendant as released on September 12th and was then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by the state's department of corrections. The judge presiding over the 45-year-old's case ordered that the defendant be deported back to Mexico and officials followed through with orders last Thursday.

Police say that the car accident occurred when the defendant was driving a taxi and struck an officer who was riding a cruiser. As a result, the cruiser burst into flames and burned 50% of the officer's body.

Following the crash, the defendant was convicted of aggravated assault as was ordered to spend 12 years behind bars for his role in the incident.
