Eleven Marijuana Plants Seized in Lake Havasu Investigation

Marijuana is illegal in every state, and in Arizona police are taking drug busts seriously. Recently, investigators were able to locate eleven separate marijuana plants in the Lake Havasu area and put an end to the manufacturing of the drugs there. The residents of a conspicuous Lake Havasu residence were arrested at the scene. They were a 33 year old man named Timothy Woodward and a 27-year-old woman named Sara Mitchem. Both were taken straight to jail. Woodward was booked on a $40,000 bong while Mitchem was released after posting $20,000 bond. The street value of the marijuana available from the tiny plants was estimated at about $18,000.

A lot of people who are desperate for a little cash will try to raise marijuana plants in their homes and then sell the leaves for money. The couple was arrested on charges of marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a weapon without a license. Chances are that they were raising the plants both for their personal benefit and for sale. If you have been charged with possession of marijuana, you could face either misdemeanor or felony charges, depending on how much of the drug is in your possession.

In Arizona, courts will look at your age, previous run-ins with the law, prior drug convictions and arrests, and whether the marijuana was ready to use or plants when they decide your charges. They may also intensify your charges if you possessed the marijuana on school grounds, or if you were in possession of drug paraphernalia like scales or bags. If you had less than an ounce of marijuana in your possession, you may be issued a misdemeanor charge. Yet once you are charged with carrying a lot of the drug, you may be given jail or prison time, work release, drug counseling and electronic monitoring, among other consequences.
