Arizona Holiday DUI Enforcement Now Underway

Arizona police have announced that DUI enforcement efforts will increase from now through the end of the year in order to combat drunk driving during the holidays, when arrests for driving under the influence tend to increase. With approximately half of all driving fatalities involving alcohol or drugs, law enforcement will be increasing the number of officers and checkpoints throughout the state to identify and detail suspected drunk drivers. According to Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Director Alberto Gutier, officers will be out in “full force.”

The Phoenix Police Department, West Valley DUI Task Force, and the East Valley DUI Task Force will be stationed in several areas throughout the state each night on weekends and holidays. Knowles Law Firm, PLC encourages safe, sober driving this holiday season, and reminds you that if you plan to drink, please find an alternate ride home. Don’t let a DUI arrest ruin your holiday!

Key Tips After a DUI Arrest

If you do find yourself facing DUI charges, it is important to call an experienced Phoenix DUI lawyer without delay. An MVD hearing must be requested within 15 days of an arrest, or driving privileges will be automatically revoked. An attorney can help you with this important step so that you suffer as little disruption to your life as possible.

Preserve your rights by remembering these tips after a DUI arrest:

  • Never resist arrest. If an officer goes to arrest you, cooperate. Arguing or resisting in any way may lead to more serious charges.
  • Invoke your Miranda Rights. After an arrest, the police should read you your rights under the Constitution to remain silent and to have an attorney present during your interrogation. You must let the officer know that you wish to invoke your rights; failure to do so may be deemed uncooperative behavior that could be used against you.
  • Retain experienced legal representation. A DUI attorney who is familiar with these types of cases can help your fight your charges and possibly retain your driving privileges. It can be difficult to fight DUI charges without a lawyer, so make sure you do all that you can to fully protect your rights by seeking legal aid as soon as possible.
