Phoenix Man Facing Armed Robbery, Kidnapping & Endangerment Charges

Phoenix police recently arrested a 26-year-old on multiple counts of armed robbery, kidnapping and endangerment. According to reports, the man allegedly arranged sexual meet ups with other men in their homes, but then tied those men up and robbed them.

This is a scheme that police believe the man repeated, with the first incident occurring in June of this year. Police believe that the suspect used popular social media sites and phone applications that catered toward men who were seeking sexual encounters with other men.

Once the suspect got into another man's home, and after he had sex with them, he would tie his victim up and let his accomplices into the house to take items of value. At this point, Phoenix police detectives believe that there are as many as 40 victims of this man's sex/robbery scheme.

Due to the serious nature of the man's offenses and the fact that he may have committed them multiple times, he could face up to life in prison if convicted. Consider the charges and what each crime's sentencing entails according to the Arizona criminal code:

  • Armed Robbery:§ 13-1904 of the Arizona Revised Statutes explains that armed robbery is taking property from another person or their residence against their will using a deadly weapon or threatening to use a deadly weapon. This is a class 2 felony offense.
  • Kidnapping:§ 13-1304 of the Arizona Revised Statutes explains that kidnapping is knowingly restraining a person with intent to aid in the commission of a felony (among other things). This is charged as a class 2 felony unless the victim is released by the defendant without harm.
  • Endangerment: This is an offense under assault and related offenses, § 13-1201 of the Arizona criminal code. Endangerment is charged as a class 6 felony if the victim was at a substantial risk of imminent death. If death was not imminent, endangerment is a class 1 misdemeanor.

Being convicted of a felony offense, let alone multiple felony offenses, not only can result in lengthy prison sentences, but convicted felons even after release are at a serious societal disadvantage. Convicted felony offenders may find it difficult to gain employment or find a place to live.
