10-Year-Old Victim of Pedestrian Accident

This week in Phoenix, Arizona, officers say that a 10-year-old girl was the victim of a tragic hit-and-run accident. According to witness statements and news reports, the young girl was trying to get to the other side of a street via a crosswalk near her home when she was hit by a car.

At the time of the crash, the victim was with her 14-year-old sister and surrounded by several witnesses who told officers that the male driver exited the vehicle, briefly checked on the 10-year-old and then told everyone to call 911 before going back to his vehicle and speeding off. When police arrived at the scene of the pedestrian accident, witnesses were able to provide the driver's license plate number.

With this information, police were able to track down the driver at his place of employment. When confronted, he admitted that he had hit the little girl with his car. He was later charged with failing to stop without injury – a felony in the state of Arizona.

Police say that the girl is expected to make a full recovery from the accident. She is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
