Woman Dies in Local Bicycle Accident

Area police say that a woman who was riding her bicycle on Friday afternoon died after she was struck by a motor vehicle. The bicycle accident occurred just after 3:00 PM near 12the Street and Indian School Road.

When officers arrived at the scene of the accident they pronounced the victim died. The biker was allegedly going eastbound on Turney Avenue and traveling toward 12th Street. The victim attempted to make a left turn but was unable to make the turn and fell off of her bicycle. She landed directly in the southbound lanes of traffic.

A driver of a Toyota was heading southbound and was then able to stop his vehicle in order to prevent the accident from happening. Police do not believe that the driver was impaired and say that the victim was not wearing a helmet when the accident took place.
