This week in Phoenix, a 21-year-old man who was engaged to his former high school teacher has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after stabbing an alleged romantic rival.Reports indicate that Sixto Balbuena was convicted of second-degree murder after killing 18-year-old Samuel Valvida. Police say the defendant found Valvida at the home of 49-year-old Tamara Hofmann, who was the defendant's fiancée.
While Balbuena was attending Marcos de Niza High School, he was a student of Hofmann's and the two started dating. When Balbuena went to Hofmann's home, he found her with Valvida who was wearing only boxer shorts.After hours of questioning, Balbuena told police he went into a rage and killed the victim. He was sentenced on Friday by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Christopher Whitten.
